I personally think it’s a power trip. They don’t see their children as separate human beings with their own needs, wants, characters and lives, but as toys or even property of themselves.

It’s too bad that we don’t adopt some of the traditions of indigenous people around the world where when a child reaches a certain age they are allowed to rename themselves.
Parents select a name based on what they like or in honor of someone in their life, without knowing the personality of the child who has to bear that name for the rest of their life.
