I spent 40 years as an active, devout Christian, even when there were things I questioned. And when I asked questions of church leaders, the answer was always “read your Bible.” I’m guessing they assumed I would find all of my answers as I read the entire Bible, but all it did was create more questions. After reading the Bible, several times (several different versions), cover to cover, as well as studying Biblical history, I finally confirmed my early beliefs… these were all nothing but fictional stories. Nothing in history provided evidence as to the truth of Biblical legends. Even as an Atheist, I am still studying Christian teachings. Religion is a very complex topic, with Christianity at the top of the list. With so many different Christian denominations, very few of them agree with one another.
As a Christian, I was well aware of the basic teaching called “believe what you are told.” This was considered to have faith. Questioning church teachings was a lack of faith. These attitudes got the church leaders off the hook. Quilt tripping was a wonderful thing for pastors.
Even if a teaching wasn’t logical or lacked evidence, it was simply true because your church told you it was true.
And forget doing your own research; education of any kind of was discouraged and condemned.

“Females have two X chromosomes; males have one X and one Y chromosome. Typically, the female chromosome pattern is designated XX, while the male chromosome pattern is XY. Thus, the genotype of the human male would be 44 XY, while the genotype of the human female would be 44 XX (where 44 represents the autosomes).” https://www.cliffsnotes.com/study-guides/biology/biology/classical-mendelian-genetics/principles-of-genetics
However, if you read just Christian sites, they will refute this, saying science if flawed but gospel is true. Without any evidence to support it. Reminder, the Bible is not evidence, it’s a book of stories without any proof.
And then there is the belief that women are responsible for the gender of a child, since she is the one who conceives and delivers a baby, right? Wrong. Because women carry the XX chromosome and men carry the XY, it’s men who determine a child’s gender, but not until 6 weeks of pregnancy, until then all fetuses are girls. That must mess with the Christian males sense of manhood.

Pro-life and anti-abortion ideas are not even Biblical, they are a social issue in the attempt to control women, to control people of color and keep white supremacy patriarchy as head of that control.
Interestingly, the idea of punishing women for Eve’s sin is strictly a Christian idea. Apparently, it’s not a popular teaching in Islam. They suggest that the original sin was caused by Adam. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/askamuslim/2020/02/original-sin-was-committed-by-adam-not-eve/
