TMI Tuesday: November 17, 2020: Overrated or Underrated

Tell us what you think, are the following overrated or underrated? Why?

1. Birkin bags

I’ve never gone bonkers about handbags and purses. Now shoes are a different subject. I was always annoyed at a niece who spent all of her money on a Louis Vuitton handbag for the cost $1200, but never had enough money to buy clothes and food for her children, fortunately they all lived with my sister in law who paid all costs for her grandchildren. Me, on the other hand, spent $12 for a cheap crossbody bag and then ended up using a cell phone wallet instead. All I need was space to hold my phone and credit cards. So yeah, I think all designer bags are overrated.

2. iPhone

I had hard enough time spending $180 for a Samsung Android, let alone $1000 for an iPhone. Maybe if I had one I would see it differently, but my little Samsung does everything I need and want. My server could be better, but it serves it’s purpose. So, I tend to think that iPhones are overrated plus I have no desire to have an Apple product.

I know it sounds like I’m really cheap, but I’m not… I like to spend money on things that matter, like my desktop computer. In fact, I just bought an $800 massage chair, which is actually on the cheap side, now that I think about it, compared to the massage chairs that cost $5,000.

3. Writing a book and self-publishing

Writing a book is not overrated at all. I think everyone should do it because everyone has a story of some kind to tell. Self-publishing is something I’ve done twice and it has its own pros and cons. This next time I’d like to find an literary agent and professional publisher. That will depend on how patient I am and if I think I’m worthy enough to get both.

4. Scruffy, short beards

I like beards, so I think they are underrated. Almost any man will look sexier with a beard, scruffy or longer. There is a limit, of course. I’m not nearly as turned on by the long ZZ Top type of beards. Too Duck Dynasty for me.

5. Hoodies

Underrated. Love hoodies. They can be dressed down or dressed up, depending the material they are made of. I like hoods on sweatshirts, coats, cloaks, capes, tunics. Years ago I had a beautiful yellow mini dress with long sleeves and a hood. I loved wearing it.

6. HIIT workouts

High Intensity Interval Training. Why? It seems obsessive and overrated to me. I’m obsessive about some things, but exercise isn’t one of them. I liked exercise that was fun, like dancing, ice skating, running and swimming. Anything more than that is too much. At least for me. But at this stage of my life, I’d be happy if I could just walk.

7. Boxer briefs

For me, it matters most about what is inside the briefs; not whether they are boxers or skin tight briefs. So in that respect, they are overrated.

Bonus: Avocado toast. Overrated or underrated?

Totally overrated. Anything avocado, cauliflower or kale. At one time, these were treats because they were only in-season once a year. Now all three are being shoved down our throats. My mom loved avocados and couldn’t wait until they showed up in the grocery store. I remember watching her savor each bite after she got them home. She loved avocados so much that everything in our house was painted avocado green (along with salmon and apricot). Me? I’m not a fan. Or of cauliflower, or kale, or beets, or peas.

  1. I loved this, your thoughts are largely similar to my own. I think the only difference is kale, I absolutely adore kale, and spinach. I remember someone mentioning crispy kale to me once and I thought they’d fallen off of their rocker, but then I tried it and now I prefer crispy kale to any potato snacks. I’m with you on peas too, my husband laughs at me because I swallow them with water and refer to them as “little green balls of pure evil”. Immature? Maybe, but we’re all allowed our down time from time to time.

      1. My perfect sandwich.. roast chicken, raw spinach, mayonnaise with a crack of freshly ground black pepper, it’s perfect! I find cooked kale can taste bitter, but crispy with a little sea salt I don’t notice it so much. It’s arugula that I can’t stand, I think it tastes like diesel smells haha.
