The first time I put up a Halloween tree, about 1989, people thought I was nuts. One parent proclaimed, “It’s not Christmas!!” That’s right,” I retorted, “And this is not a Christmas tree!”
I mean, it was just a pot of black branches covered with orange lights with black ribbons and dried moss. How does that say “Christmas”??
Since then, Halloween trees have become very popular and actually do use Christmas trees, usually artificial. There are oodles of ways to create a Halloween tree. Below are just a few of the ways:
Make a Halloween tree; paint branches black and gather into a vase with black stones for anchors. Add orange and purple Halloween lights, drape with dried moss and thin black ribbons. Add black, orange, silver and purple ornaments (many of those could be handmade), top with a black witches hat.

Or use a second hand Christmas tree and spray paint it black.
